Thomas Hancox and Rachel Wick started playing together in 2007, when they met while studying at St Peter's College, University of Oxford. They are now much in demand throughout the country, performing at venues including the Wigmore Hall, Colston Hall, Kensington Palace, Penshurst Place, and Lauderdale House, along with work for concert societies in Canterbury, Caversham, and West Somerset. They have also been guest artists on cruises for P&O and Fred. Olsen.

Beyond their recital work, they work for Live Music Now, a charity that brings live music to those who would otherwise rarely, if ever, experience it, and also give educational performances for CAVATINA Chamber Music Trust and the Wigmore Hall. They are also available for performances as part of the Countess of Munster Musical Trust’s Recital Scheme.

Thomas Hancox · flute

Thomas Hancox has worked as guest principal flute of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, English Chamber Orchestra, and the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, along with performances with English National Opera, the Dunedin Consort, the London Handel Orchestra, the Saraband Consort, the Locrian Ensemble, and the Britten-Pears Orchestra. Solo and chamber work has led to collaborations with artists and ensembles including the Allegri and Sacconi string quartets, Trevor Pinnock, Ilya Gringolts, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Matthew Barley, and Matthew Hunt, with recitals in the Cheltenham, Spitalfields, Canterbury, and Oxford Chamber Music festivals. He is an artist on the Countess of Munster Musical Trust Recital Scheme, and also with Live Music Now.

A committed teacher, he works with students at King's College London, the Dragon School (Oxford), and on several summer courses (the Flute Kitchen, Harrogate; the London Flute Academy). He was previously the Junior Editor of Pan, the journal of the British Flute Society, and now acts as an animateur for CAVATINA Chamber Music Trust.

He first read music at St Peter's College, Oxford, from where he graduated with a first, before pursuing further studies in Paris with Patrick Gallois, and subsequently at the Royal Academy of Music with Paul Edmund-Davies and Samuel Coles, finishing with a distinction and the honorary DipRAM. He was generously supported by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, the Leverhulme Trust, the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the Musicians Benevolent Fund, and the Craxton Memorial Trust.

Rachel Wick · harp

Having graduated with a first from St. Peter's College, Oxford University, where she was both an instrumental and academic scholar, and an MA with distinction from the Royal Academy of Music, Rachel is now pursuing a busy freelance career as a harpist.

She has recorded for both the Decca and Avie record labels with New College and Christ Church Cathedral Choirs, Oxford, respectively, and has performed with Her Majesty’s Choir of the Chapel Royal in a concert at Buckingham Palace, which was broadcast on Classic FM on Christmas afternoon. She also appears on Howard Goodall’s latest album, Inspired, released by Decca/Classic FM in January 2013.

Rachel is an experienced chamber and orchestral musician having played with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Concert Orchestra, Orpheus Sinfonia, Orchestra Musica Romantica, City of London Sinfonia, and European Union Youth Orchestra to name but a few, and was selected as a member of the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s Foyle Future First scheme for 2011/12.

Her studies at RAM were generously supported by the Kathleen Trust, Craxton Memorial Trust, John Wates Charitable Trust, Michael James Music Trust, and the Yorkshire Ladies Council of Education
