Rosamund Brass was formed in September 2020 by friends who are all currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. The members have all known each for a considerably longer time however, as some have previously been members of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, as well as other competing youth bands. Members of the quartet have held principal positions with these brass bands and have performed in all the major British youth band contests such as the Youth Brass Band nationals and The Youth Brass in Concert championships.

Individually, members have been involved in many projects such as the Music for Youth, playing with the Wallberg Band and the Brass Pass Young Brass Award. The ensemble are also active members with some of the country’s leading Brass Bands including Grimethorpe Colliery Band, Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band, and Wardle Anderson Brass. With these bands, members of the quartet have competed at some of the highest-level brass band contests such as the British Open Brass Band championships, the National Brass Band Championships at the Royal Albert Hall, Brass in Concert championships and the Regional Championships.

In March 2021, Rosamund Brass made their debut in the RNCM Play Festival. This festival showcased what RNCM students had accomplished during the lockdown caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic. Here, the quartet performed a piece that was recorded remotely and edited together, allowing them to perform to the public despite the effects of Covid-19. Whilst at the Royal Northern College of Music the ensemble have been coached by many leading brass and wind professionals including Richard Marshall, David Thornton, Timothy Barber, Rob Buckland and John Miller.

As an ensemble, Rosamund Brass hopes to develop further and explore the repertoire available to brass quartets. The ensemble want to share their passion for brass chamber music with as many people as possible
